HAMPTON DOWNS 1 DAY MEETING.
This Sunday 11th December.
IMPORTANT: The BMW Race Driver Series “Drivers briefing” will be held promptly at 8.00am. This will be followed by the official track drivers briefing at 8.30am.
Welcome to both Samuel Read (Team HellBM) E30 and David Stephens Open Class E46 M3, both first round rookies for the series, and welcome back to Chris Wright, David Brace and Mike Eady, all making a return to the series for the first time this season.
Early scrutineering and documentation is available Saturday afternoon (between 2pm and 5pm) at the Hampton Downs based Race FX premises. With the tight timetable on Sunday and 150+ entrants expected, it would be appreciated if as many drivers as possible could take advantage of this opportunity and reduce the pressure for meeting officials on the Sunday morning.
ALSO: A number of you incurred the wrath of the Motorsport NZ officials at Pukekohe for minor things, like not having the correct owner details or a photo of your car in the log book. Please ensure that you bring these details up to date before it starts to cost you time and money for not complying. Graeme Mortensen is one of the Motorsport NZ stewards for this weekend and he’s a stickler for the rules.
On a positive note, there is an “open gate” for this meeting, meaning entry is free, a perfect time to drag out family and friends to see what your hobby is all about.
Entries as of last Friday are enclosed above.
And yes, as per normal there have been late entries received since this date.
If you were not a late entrant and your name isn’t listed above, please get in touch and we’ll confirm if it has been received.
Final entries and E30 race grids will be posted in the Race Series marquee Sunday morning.
Currently we have 58 E30′s entered and the track maximum of 46 Open Class entries, well done guys, another fantastic turn out.
BRDS POLO SHIRTS.
The committee has arranged for one good quality Polo shirt and one Cap to be produced free of charge for each driver registered for the 2011/12 season. These will include the BMW Roundel, BMW Race Driver Series script, and Castrol branding. A finished sample of this shirt will be available at the 11th December Hampton Downs meeting for you to see, along with a full range of unbranded sizes for you to try on to confirm the size you want. Additional shirts and caps (over and above the ones you are entitled to for free) can also be purchased for family, friends, crew etc. Costs will be $45 for the polo shirts and $15 for the caps.
To take advantage of this we need you to confirm your exact requirements on the 11th on a form that will be available at the Race Series marquee. Payment for any extra shirts/caps would be great if it can be made on the day, alternatively, an e-mail to us stating sizes and qtys required along with a Direct Credit to our account within 5 days with a reference to your car number will work, but to get them all produced ready for the January festival meetings we must have your payment by Friday the 16th – no payment – no extra gear. Our Account number is : 03 0285 0215733 00.
TV COVERAGE.
A compilation of rounds 1 and 2 screens tonight on Sky Sport 2 at 7.00pm, followed by a repeat screening on Friday’s Sky Sport 3 at 12.00pm (midday) and on TV3′s 3 Sport Sunday on 18th December.
See you all Sunday.

In less than two weeks time it’s all on for round 4 of the season.
TACCOC Hampton Downs 1 day meeting.
This is being held on Sunday 11th December.
Entries as of last Friday are enclosed above.
IMPORTANT: For those not already entered, entry can still be done online @ www.motorsportentry.com
Please get any outstanding entries in ASAP so that scrutineering sheets / E30 groups etc can be formulated and distributed prior to the weekend of the event. See you all there.
HD Festival.
One weekend entry.
We’ve had a number of you asking how to enter just one of the BMW Festival weekends in January.
Currently the online entry process at www.motorsportentry.com will only cover entry for both weekends.
To enter just one meeting you’ll need to do the following:
Tick the S/hist/f junior/classic trial box and this will halve the entry cost.
NOTE: The special pricing negotiated for BMW Race Driver Series members is for both meetings combined.
Entry for one meeting only will default back to the standard entry fee.
IMPORTANT: Entries for the festival are required by this Wednesday the 30th November.
Incident log.
The series committee is responsible for maintaining the well being of the BMW Race Driver Series for both existing and future members, and part of this responsibility is to maintain driver standards and behaviour at a high level.
The committee has now established, and circulated, a “Culture and behaviour” document which describes the most important values of the series. The second stage of this process is the recording of an incident log for the series.
When incidents come to the attention of the committee, whether by race members, officials, drivers delegates, or other witnesses, we will consider the information available and make a decision accordingly.
For serious incidents, part of this process is the implementation of points deductions where these are deemed appropriate by the committee. These incidents will then be added to the incident log.
In the case of less serious incidents, eg minor contact between two cars, both will be entered onto the log without allocation of blame. There are no points deductions or other penalties associated with this. It is simply a method for recording what has happened.
The total number of incidents associated with each driver will also appear in a column in the final results after each meeting, without description. The resulting statistics will allow the committee to identify frequent incidents so that we can address them. It will also allows us to detect “near misses” which could have been more serious and consider changes to rules, or other actions that will improve safety in the future.
BMW Parts pricing.
After a lot of discussions between interested parties we are now pleased to announce that a BMW Race Driver Series member discount has been agreed between BMW NZ and their dealer network.
Due to the sensitive nature of this arrangement (impact on BMW trade customers etc) a specific percentage discount cannot be announced. Officially “BMW Dealers will provide a substantial discount to BMW Race series Members” is what we can confirm.
For those in Auckland, the local dealers supporting this initiative are Jerry Clayton BMW on the North Shore and Team McMillan BMW in Newmarket.
CASTROL
We are also close to being able to announce a similar arrangement for Castrol products.
More on this shortly.
DVD’s
For those of you that ordered last season DVD’s but won’t be at our one day meeting next weekend at Hampton Downs, please e-mail back a daytime delivery address and we’ll get these sent out to you. For the rest, we’ll distribute these during next weekends meeting.
TV coverage.
The television landscape in regards to motorsport coverage at the moment seems to be an ever changing environment!
At this point indications are that the compilation of both round 1 at Hampton Downs and round 2 from Pukekohe will be screening Wednesday December 7th on SKY’s Fujitsu Motorsport program, with coverage also scheduled for TV3′s Motorsport program on Sunday the 18th December.
Keep an eye on TV program scheduling times during December, and if anything further comes to light we’ll keep you informed.

Thanks to those who managed to make the trip to what has become our annual Manfeild round as part of the MG classic meeting.
58 E30 entries and 40 Open class entries was an outstanding result considering this meeting was a back to back round with Pukekohe’s Tier 1 opener the weekend before.
The Open Class again put on a good show in what can only be described as a weekend of inclement weather conditions, so much for our “only one wet meeting a year” scenario!
And while a few incidents again reared their heads in the earlier E30 races the final top half duel was the best of the season so far (and possibly the series full stop) with regular slip stream overtaking manoeuvres amongst the front group and the final result requiring an examination of the finish line video to determine Marty Irvine as the winner.
We’ll get meeting results and updated season results out shortly, but while we’re doing this below is an important update from Jim Barclay regards the upcoming Hampton Downs BMW Festival meetings in January.—————————————————————————-

IMPORTANT POINTS
Entry costs.
As was confirmed in newsletter #5, the BMW Race Driver Series will be an integral part of the BMW Festival being held at Hampton Downs over the weekends of 20-22nd Januay 2012 and 27-29th January 2012. These are three day meetings with qualifying on the Friday and two races each on Saturday and Sunday. We will be running two grids, one for the E30 Series cars and one for Open Series cars. NOTE: There is a large gap in our Race Series calendar to give you all time to plan (and save) for these important non-championship rounds. This is very important, as based on two full 40 + car grids we have been able to negotiate independent sponsorship that will allow us to offer our members an entry fee that will make these meetings very attractive.
Entry per weekend has been set at $230 incl GST.
This special entry fee has been incorporated into the online entry process. While the online entry form shows only the full meeting costs, when entering, once either the BMW E30 Series or BMW Open Series race groups is chosen our special entry fee is applied.
Entry close date.
Entries close on 30 November 2011, – so please enter right away.
We are constantly plagued by members who continually late enter events. While it is always good to have the maximum number of entries at each event possible, these late entries create last minute organisational restructuring that we can do without.
To reiterate Jims comments ” There is a lot of work to do to get the Programme completed before Xmas and to the Printers early in the New Year – so your early entry will help me a lot. Please do your entry right away, especially if you want your name to be in the programme!”
As this meeting is outside our organisation please ensure you represent both the BMW Race Driver Series and the BMW Car Cub of NZ in a positive light by getting your entries in on time.
Round 4 Hampton Downs.
Entries for our 4th round, which is the one day TACCOC meeting on 11th December are also now open.
Till next time.
Regards

Short of a couple of new comers, it’s starting to look like the usual suspects are again working their way towards the pointy end of each field. We’ll get a more in depth update out to you covering this Pukekohe round, plus a report on Round 3 at Manfeild once this has been run.
Due to travelling time frames, our penchant for late entries etc, final E30 qualifying groups and final entrant lists will not be sent out via
e-mail for this weekends event. You’ll find them posted on the BMW Race Driver Series notice board inside the Race Series marquee first thing Saturday morning.
NOTE: The BMW Race Driver Series drivers briefing will be scheduled for the 30 minutes prior to Manfeilds own drivers briefing.
See you all this weekend at Manfeild.

I would be grateful if you put it in an email please and it starts Tomorrow the competition and thought we could run it until 11 December and we can take photos for the Best Moustache etc. Prizes will be arranged by Mike Ashton. Many thanks , and hope everyone gets into the spirit of it for MOVEMBER .
Regards Mike.
3. Final numbers for Pukekohe.
We will be fielding 59 E30 Series entries this weekend, and have reached the track maximum of 46 for Open Series cars.
A fantastic result. And while it does look like we may have lost a couple of the entered Open Series competitors due to pre-meeting mechanical issues, a field of even 44 cars must surely be a record of sorts for Pukekoke.
Well done, and we look forward to an enjoyable weekend.

Hi guys and girls, as promised here’s Newsletter #7, hot on the heals of Newsletter #6.
1. Driver Standards.
A considerable amount of thought has been put into developing a document which, in effect, can be read as a “Mission Statement” for the BMW Race Driver Series. The requirement was for a document that was both clear and concise, but unburdened by specific rules and regulations. As an attachment above, you will find this document which outlines both the driving standards requirements and the overall culture behind the BMW Race Driver Series.
We are confident that after you have read this, and quite possibly while you are reading this, you will come to understand the foundation that the series is being built on. For some this will already be understood, and be seen as simple common sense. For others this could create something close to an epiphany? Whichever way this impacts you, please ensure that you understand clearly your requirements as a member of the BMW Race Driver Series as we move on to our next round at Pukekohe in two weeks time.
2. Final Results Round 1.
Final results for both the E30 and Open Class Race Series are also enclosed above.
3. Round 2 Pukekohe 5th – 6th November 2011.
Today was the cut off deadline for production of the Race Program for this event. From entries received to date we have formulated grids for both Group 1 and Group 2 E30 qualifying. As per our Race Series Format these groups will also constitute the grids for both Race 1 Saturday and Sundays first race (reverse grid format).
Overall we have 52 E30 entries and 43 Open Class entries (also enclosed above), another fantastic turnout of BMW’s.
Late entries can still be accepted, however if you are still to enter please get this underway ASAP to avoid the logistical challenge that this can create.
We welcome two first time BMW Race Driver Series rookies to the meeting;
In Open Group A.
Gavin Bellars, E30 S38 3.6L.
Andre Mortimer E92 M3 V8.
And we welcome back to the series for their first appearance this season;
E30
Ian Brown
Andrew Murray
Open Group A
Milan Klinac
Mike Mosen
Chris Wright
Open Group B
Derek Cecil
Ken Starnes
Russell Wackrow
Open Group C
Grant Clegg
Howard Wood
4. Housekeeping.
Through the Race Series e-mail we field a large number of inquiries for information already sent through earlier correspondence.
While we are always happy to respond, please bear in mind the volunteer nature of the committee and the multiplication that can become involved. 120 members each needing a different 5 minute e-mail response = 600 minutes, or 10 hours.
One suggestion strongly recommended (for a number of benefits) would be to print off and keep on file all correspondence as it is received. This should be applied to both BMW Race Series, and all other outside correspondence, particularly meeting entry confirmation and MotorSport NZ’s e-news technical bulletin updates.
However, if there is something you are not sure about please don’t hold back from getting in touch.
To Follow.

MG Classic Pit information 2011
2011 Classic Race November V2
2011-12 Castrol BMW Race Driver Entry Form
Well what can we say………. Round 1 was certainly an interesting event to kick the season off with!
The weather provided everything from a perfect summers day Saturday, to a gusty wet and cold reminder of winter on Sunday. Certainly challenging conditions for some, and a perfect reminder to make sure a set of wets is always on hand. Saying that, over the last four years we’ve never experienced more than two wet races in an entire season, so is history now on our side promising good weather for the remainder of the season? Yeah right……….
Out of these challenging conditions came some fantastic close racing from a near capacity “Open Class” grid. Well done guys. Although it looks like reliability is going to play its part in Open class group A again this season.
Congratulations to Todd Pelham and Mark Holland, both “Open Series” rookies who are topping the points tables in their respective classes. Once Mark is dialled in to our North Island tracks this could be a hard car to catch, and while not a big lead for Toddy, it’s a fantastic result from an E36 that’s “boxing well above its weight”.
Provisional results for all three “Open Series” classes is enclosed above.
Then we have the E30′s.
Thank you group 2 for showing that it is possible to race side by side with control and respect for other competitors, irrespective of weather conditions. Well done Mike Ashton for topping group 2 qualifying. Richard Oxton, Mike Ashton, David Farmer for 1st / 2nd / 3rd race 1. Graham Ball, Callum Quin, Paul Bradley for 1st / 2nd /3rd race 2 reverse grid. A fantastic result by Callum, an E30 series rookie who also posted the fastest race 2 lap time. Well done to you all.
And then there was group 1.
Well guys, For those that took notice and reflected on the culture and driving standards that are a prerequisit for competing in this series, thank you. Well done Ashley Blewett for topping group 1 qualifying and 1st in race 1.
Results on the day also went to Craig Suester, Matt Griffin for 2nd and 3rd in race 1. Bruce Miller, John Lovich, Matt Griffin, 1st / 2nd / 3rd race 2 reverse grid. However a number of you out there seemed to forget that the ball was in your court. It was made clear that the opportunity to keep the slate clean was yours, so please don’t read the results enclosed above as anything more than provisional.
Both split grid race 3 finales were well contested affairs with Keith Mitchell, Dan Rollason, and Tony Richardson taking out 1st / 2nd / 3rd from the bottom half points group, followed by Ashley Blewett, Martin Irvine and Matt Griffin taking out the first three places in the final top half points race.
Other round results worthy of a mention are, Michael Boyle currently top 5 for the round, Callum Quin top 8 and top rookie, with Bruce Miller also in the top 10 showing that even after a mid pack qualifying run, a good result can be achieved through consistency.
We’ll get final round results for both Open and E30 Series championships finalised and out to you all as soon as possible.
ROUND 2 TIER 1 PUKEKOHE.
Entry for both our “Round 2 Tier 1 Pukekohe” and “Round 5 Tier 1 Taupo” meetings is now open.
Entry forms for these meetings are enclosed above. You will note that there is a subsidised entry fee of $380 for both rounds if paid before October 14th. PLEASE print these out and get your entry in ASAP.
For E30 competitors you can mark either the group 1 or group 2 option, as you will be resorted into the correct groups once final round 1 results are coalated. You may also notice that there will be one E30 and one Open race back to back on the Sunday of each event.
We will make an allowance for any weigh in requirements for dual entered E30′s to be calculated and completed prior to the start of the
E30 event. NOTE: Due to maximum grid numbers entry for the “Open Series” could be under a “first in first served basis”.
Also please ensure that you read and understand the supplementary regulations enclosed.
I would also strongly suggest that you read and clearly understand the penalties section of Motorsport NZ’s New Zealand Motorsport Manual.
After 10 years of Tier 1 exposure I will offer this advice….. Do not let the complaciency of previous meeting fool you, If you fail to understand here, be sure you have your cheque book on hand
ROUND 3 MANFEILD “MG Classic”.
An additional entry form for this is enclosed above.
Again please print this out and get your entry posted ASAP.

Welcome to you all.
A good objective to have for a first event is to keep enjoyment as your main priority, with the aim of having your car back on its trailer in one piece at the end of Sundays racing. There will be plenty of time over the rest of the season to come up to speed with yourself and your car. Keep this in mind and you’ll leave with a smile on your face and looking forward to the next event.
A far better way to be feeling than the alternative!
Please be sure to make yourselves known to other series members throughout the weekend, and at Saturday evenings BBQ.
A full list of meeting entrants is enclosed above.
E30 Entrants please note:
With the change in race format for this season, Groups 1 and Groups 2 for Saturday morning qualifying and both Race 1 Saturday and Sundays reverse grid race can now be formatted.
These two groups are shown on the attachment above.
Group 1 is the first qualifying group, first race 1 group and first race 2 group. The final race 3 groups will again be recalculated and split by accumulated points with the first race 3 group being made up of those competitors from the bottom half, with the remaining top half points competitors meeting for the E30 finale.
Driving standards.
It’s fantastic to be able to say that at this stage of the season we have had zero race incidents, zero driver complaints and zero driving standards penalties needing to be applied. No racing yet has played a big part in this of course!! but ultimately it’s up to you, our members, to ensure that the season stays this way.
I’m sure we all have a list of those drivers we feel will be the ones being singled out due to poor driving standards, poor attitudes etc, with most of this based on history from previous seasons. So good news, we are starting this season with a clean slate, so if you think that you could be on someones list please reflect on this, as here’s your chance to start afresh.
Brett Cowan (BMW Car Club Committee Representative) has penned a brief outline of what we feel is the ethos behind the Castrol BMW Race Driver Series. Unfortunately Brett will be in Canada until this weeked so stay tuned for this to arrive shortly, in the meantime I will add a couple of comments;
The strength of this series is that it provides a competitive arena for our members to enjoy what in most cases is there pride and joy.
As is always mentioned “we are only racing for chocolate fish” and we don’t even hand these out!
So if you are attempting that dive under brakes but can’t get fully alongside before the other competitor commits to the corner then pull out. If you’re going around the outside of someone, don’t turn down to the apex unless you have cleared them 100% until then it is not your corner. If you run wide, then you messed up, don’t cut down on the guy you’ve given the line to. In a reverse grid race with fast cars approaching behind hold your line, if you let one through on the inside of a corner hold your line as another faster car could be behind. Always use your mirrors, they are there for a reason!

Series Decals.
We’ve been inundated with decal requests over the past two weeks from those who didn’t respond to last months newsletter, so we have had another run of door number panels and Castrol screen banners manufactured.
These have been finished, so for those still requiring these, or any other decals, they’ll be available for pick up at the track on Friday morning. David Farmer (signwriter) will be on hand to help install these if time permits.
